5 day trip - starting and ending in Kota Kinabalu Sabah. Could be extended with further riding or seeing the sites of Borneo.
With an extensive background in exploratory and remote expeditions in Borneo we have put together a series of trips aimed to encourage more people to venture into trying something new, unique and a very long way from the beaten track.
Hearing that it had been done once before but having no great detail about the previous route - in 2005 Fieldskills set off to attempt a circumnavigation of Mount Kinabalu. Well supported we made the trip in five great days experiencing tiny jungle trails, ferocious rivers and isolated villages as well as rural market towns and deserted beaches.
In November 2010 we took it a step further and made the ride unsupported in four days, carrying all our food and camping gear. We discovered a new section to the route which took us through primary rainforest and saved us many hours on gravel roads and again the ride was a great success.
Now we are looking for a small team of keen bikers to join us on another attempt at this great journey.
So if you are looking for a really unique mountain biking adventure then join us for the Round Kinabalu Bike trip.

Day 1:
Starting at Kinabalu Park HQ, we will ride for 3 - 4 hours before putting the bikes in the truck and going on foot through the jungle for 2 or 3 hours to our first night at a village community hall.
Day 2:
You begin the day with a 20 minute climb to get warmed up followed by a thrilling downhill. Most of the day is spent on undulating gravel roads to the town of Kota Belud. From Kota Belud, we will drive to a nearby beach hotel for the night.
Day 3:
This morning, we return to Kota Belud to start the ride. This is a great day of riding with some tough hills. After lunch we will again put the bikes in the truck and continue on foot for 2 - 3 hours through the primary forests of Kinabalu Park. We trek over the saddle of the mountains to emerge at a small village where our bikes will be waiting. Now we have the perfect end to an amazing day - a 7km descent to a beautiful campsite called Sorinsim.
Day 4:
Today is a fantastic day of riding - small trails, mud and some thrilling descents compliment the two long climbs of the day. To top it off you finish at a campsite with a beautiful river to bathe.
Day 5:
Dirt roads and a huge new highway (thankfully almost empty) bring us to our final destination, Poring Hot Springs. Relaxing in the hot baths is the perfect place to finish the expedition.
Many people may choose to extend their stay to see more of what Borneo has to offer. We are happy to advise or organise a package for you:
Climb Mount Kinabalu - after riding round you might fancy nipping up at the end... 2 days
Wildlife safari - see the orangutans at Sepilok and boat safaris on the Kinabatangan River... 2 to 3 days.
Snorkel and dive off KK or on the world class resort of Sipidan.

Sabah became his home 10 years ago now and he loves nothing more than exploring it's hidden corners, often on his mountain bike.
The only way to find great mountain biking in Borneo is simple... to get out and bike and through years of trial and error and hard days on the hills Simon has found some incredible routes in Borneo.
He loves mountain biking, and is as excited as anyone to be attempting these round Kinabalu expeditions and sharing them with other adventurous biking adventurers. The June trip will also be joined by Australian mountain bike elite rider and guide Justin Reidy.
